Second Floor Exhibition Space

An important aspect of The Bowes Museum exhibition programme is the display and support of local craftspeople and artists. This space will primarily be for exhibitions of this nature. The gallery will be stripped and refurbished to include installation of a flexible lighting and hanging system, along with new environmental controls. Recent examples of these types of exhibitions have been:

Teesdale Livelihoods and Landscapes in Textiles – a vibrant piece of visual heritage created by local schools and community groups who have been influenced and inspired by Teesdale. The outcome on display was a series of textile hangings linked to the landscape, industries and lifestyles that have shaped the dale.

On the Horizon, Out of Reach - a selling exhibition of contemporary landscape paintings by regional artist Sue Lawson, working in the English romantic tradition.
