Madame Paquin - foremost French Couturier 1869-1936
Thursday 1 March, 10.30am for coffee and biscuits, followed by lecture. £9.00 (Friends) £10.00 (Guests)
Part of the Paquin archive is held by the Fashion Museum, Bath. The curator, Rosemary Harden, will give a lecture on this remarkable designer and the archive. Jeanne Paquin was the first woman ever to open her own Fashion House.
Historic Lace in Contemporary Design
Tuesday 13 March, 2.15pm for lecture followed by tea and scones. £9.00 (Friends) £10.00 (Guests)
Join Beth Walsh for this fascinating lecture, which she describes as follows: “Lace is usually associated with the skills and fashions of the past. How then is it relevant to contemporary design? This talk will explore the use of historical designs in new ways and in new contexts. It will also look at how traditional techniques are used in challenging and innovative ways, with the inclusion of colour and distortion of scale. Lace is not of the past; it can be an exhilarating part of the present.”
‘Our Sporting Life’ Gala Dinner

Jacques Gruber and the Ecole de Nancy Artists

An illustrated talk on the Friends' visit to see the first-ever exhibition devoted to the art of Jacques Gruber, and to explore the work of the other members of the Nancy School, given by Caroline Peacock.

This great house near Penrith was bought by Lord Inglewood's family in 1605, when it was already at least 150 years old. Our group will enjoy a privately guided visit and a tour of the spectacular gardens.
Friends of The Bowes Museum Music Group 2012 Concert Programme
Miranda Wright Singers

Come and listen to young classical singers, progressing towards professional status, as they perform a varied programme of music – including Gilbert & Sullivan, Mozart and Schubert – accompanied by David Murray. Keld Ensemble
Saturday 5 May, 7.30pm. Adults £7.50 Friends £6 Under 16s (accompanied) FREE
Based in East London, Keld Ensemble is a classical string orchestra whose primary role is to educate communities in rural areas. In the week preceding the concert they will be teaching in schools in the dale and performing at other venues.

Gala Event
Book early for the return of this acclaimed guitarist, this year accompanied by Keld Ensemble, who amazed and delighted the audience at last year’s concert. This concert is part of the Barnard Castle International Guitar Festival; further information will accompany the April Newsletter.

Carol Concert

Join Barnard Castle School Chapel Choir in a traditional concert of readings, carols and Christmas music, followed by mince pies and mulled wine.
